    These two fractions have the same denominators, but the numerator of the first fraction, the 1 is less than the numerator of the second, the 7 ... This means before subtracting the fractions, you will have to borrow a 1 from the number 0 making it a - 1.

    You can add this borrowed 1 to the fraction 1/10 like this.

    1/10 + 1 is 1/10 + 10/10 = 11/10.

    Now after doing this the 1/10 becomes - 1 11/10 and you can now subtract ...

    -1 11/10 and 7/10

    11-7=4 (keep the denominator the 10 the same ...

    Just subtract the whole number parts or - 1 - 0=-1

    Answer is - 1 4/10
