180 miles because you know that in one hour the bird can 40 miles per hour so you want to times that by 3 hours and you get 160 miles but your not done. 30 minutes is half an hour so you want to find out half the miles so half o 40 is 20 so add the 20 onto the 160 and you get 180 miles.

3 hours and 30 minutes can be rewritten as 3.5 hours

If the bird is flying constantly for 3.5 hours at 40 miles per hour:

    3.5 x 40 = 140 miles
