Set up two inequalities for the absolute value inequality.

    First inequality and second inequality: x + y > 1 or x + y < - 1

Notice I used or between the inequalities. If your absolute value expression is greater than the constant, it is a disjunction.

Graph the individual inequalities on the same plane and that is your solution.
