So so 170 miles per hour

    we find several thing:

    distance covered in 45 minutes

    distance from other city

    1 hour=60 minutes

    45/60=3/4

    it flew 3/4 hour

so multiply 170 by 3/4 to get 510/4=127 and 1/2 miles north

so it flew past the city since it 127 and 1/2>12.5

    remember that 1/2=0.5

    120 and 1/2=127.5

since it went past the city, the 127.5 includes the 12.5 miles from city to city and the other distance past it so we subtract 12.5 from 127.5 to find the distance that th plane went from the other city

    127.5-12.5=115

the answer is 115 miles north of the city
