It is reported that the wild tiger population has declined by 97% over the last 20 years.

There are now 3200 tigers left in the wild.

To the nearest thousand, how many wild tigers were there 20 years ago?

    The 3200 tigers are the 3% left from what has declined so if 3200 is 3% then you find out how much 1% is by

    3200/3 and that equals 1067 and that is 1% so to find 100% you multiply it by 100 which equals 106700 tigers
