    You need to put them in groups of 5 (4 alligators+1 crocodile)

    40/5=8 groups

    32 alligators, 8 crocodile

    X=crocodiles

    so since there's 4 times as many alligators, then we multiply 4 and x to get 4x

    Now, we have a total of 40 crocodiles and alligators, so we can make the equation:

    4x=40 to find how many crocs there are. So if we divide 4x form both sides,

    x=10.

    so there are 10
