    The stained-glass window is 3 1/2 feet by 2 3/4 feet.

    For the item#1, solving for the area:

    Area = (3 1/2 feet) x (2 3/4 feet)

    Area = 9/4 feet or 2.25 feet²

    For the item#2, solve for the area of the colored glass:

    Area colored glass = (1/4 foot) x (1/4 foot)

    Area colored glass = 1/16 feet² or 0.0625 feet²

    Solving for the total numbers of colored squares:

    Total numbers = 2.25 / 0.0625

    Total numbers = 36

    The total numbers of colored square is 36 pieces.
