Ms McKenzie is taking s trip to the mountains. She drive a number of hours at 50 miles per hour for the first part of the trip Then she drove 3 hours less for the second part of the trip at 65 miles per hour. The total distance of her trip was 495 miles.

Write and solve an equation for this situation. Be sure to define your variables. How long were the first and second parts of the trip?
