    Divide 2 out of all terms since it is a common multiple.

    2 (x²+8x+12) = 0

    now factor; two common multiples of 12 that add up

    to 8 are 6 & 2.

    2 (x+6) (x+2) = 0; then,

    2=0 ... invalid answer; ignore this.

    x+6=0; then x = - 6

    x+2=0; then x = - 2

    x = - 6, - 2
