For this problem you want to isolate x, which represents the total number of lunches.

    so (2/9) x = 24.

then if you want to solve, you would multiply both sides by the reciprocal of 2/9 which is 9/2 because (9/2) (2/9) cancel each other out. so the total lunches would be equal to x = (9/2) (24)

    The answer is (2/9) x = 24
