The width of a rectangular piece of cardboard is 7 in. less than it's length. A square piece that measures 3 in. on each side is cut from each corner, then the sides are turned up to make a box with volume 360 inches cubed. Find the length and width of the original piece of cardboard

    That's a lot of information to take in, isn't it?

    v=360

    l=x

    b=x-7

    h=3

    v=lbh

    360=x*x-7*3

    Now I just plugged in random numbers until I found

    360=15*15-7*3

    360=15*8*3

    360=360

    Length = 15inch

    Breadth = 8inch
