    A (b+c) = ab+ac

    the a is the (x³+x²+x)

    so

    (x-1) (x³+x²+x) =

    (x³+x²+x) (x-1) =

    (x³+x²+x) (x) + (x³+x²+x) (-1) =

    (x⁴+x³+x²) + (-x³-x²-x) =

    x⁴+x³+x²-x³-x²-x=

    x⁴-x
