    There are a. 12 bass players who played rock music.

    Given:

    3/8 of 48 played bass

    48 * 3/8 = (48 * 3) / 8 = 144/8 = 18 musicians played the bass

    bass players play jazz : 1 to 3 or 6 : 18

    bass players play rock : 2 to 3 or 12 : 18

    1:3 = x:18

    18 = 3x

    18/3 = x

    6 = x jazz bass players

    18 - 6 = 12 rock bass players.
