If the quadratic formula is used to solve 2x 2 - 3x - 1 = 0, what are the solutions?

    The quadratic formula used to solve a quadratic of the form ax^2+bx+c is:

    x = (-b±√ (b^2-4ac)) / (2a) so in this case:

    x = (3±√ (9+8)) / 4

    x = (3±√17) / 4

    (2x - 1) (x - 1) = 0

    by the zero property which must be stated!

    2x-1=0 or x-1=0

    2x=+1 or x = + 1

    x = 1/2

    a = 2 b = - 3 c = + 1

    +3+-√ (9 - 4*2*1) / 4

    +3+-√ 1/4

    3+-1/4 = 1/2 or + 1 as we found earlier
