First you need to distribute the negative into the ().

Then you will have 14 = (-p+8) now you can drop the (), so it will be 14 = - p+8.

    Next subtract 8 from both sides, 6 = - p.

Now you have to divide both sides by - 1 to get rid of the negative value of p. - 6=p.

    Answer: - 6 = p
