Suppose that the length of a certain rectangle is 8 meters less than four times its width. the perimeter of the rectangle is 54 meters. find the length and width of the rectangle.

    Length = 4w-8

    P = 2L + 2W

    54 = 2 (4w-8) + 2W

    54 = 8w - 16 + 2W

    54 = 10w - 16

    54+16 = 10w - 16+16

    70=10w

    70/10=10w/10

    w=7

    L = 4 (7) - 8

    L = 28-8

    L = 20

    Check

    P = 2w + 2L

    54 = 2 (7) + 2 (20)

    54 = 14 + 40

    54=54
