A certain recipe ask for 5/9 flour and 1/3 flour. how much flour is needed?

    5/9 + 1/3 = 5/9 + 3/9 = 8/9 <==

    8/9 because you need a common denominator. You do that by multiplying 1/3 times 3 which is 3/9, the add the top numbers to get 8/9
