The measures of an angle and its supplement differ by 40°. What are the measures of the angles? Hint: An angle and its supplement have degree measures whose sum is 180°

    Let the two numbers be x and x + 40, then

    x + x + 40 = 180

    2x = 180 - 40 = 140

    x = 140/2 = 70

    Therefore, the measures of the two angles are 70° and 70 + 40 = 110°
