A train set has 40 six-inch-long pieces of track and 8 nine-inch long pieces. What is the longest track you can build?

    (40 pieces) x (6 inch/piece) = 240 inches

    (8 pieces) x (9 inch/piece) = 72 inches

    If you put them all together end-to-end, they stretch

    (240 + 72) = 312 inches

    That's the same as 26 feet.
