    Given: A = 52ft² and l = 2w-5

    know that formula for A = lw, substitute for what you know and solve for w

    52 = (2w-5) w - > w = - 4, w=6.5 but because a width measurement can not be negative, you can eliminate w=-4. so the width is equal to 6.5ft

    now input that in the equation for length and solve for l:

    l=2w-5=2 (6.5) - 5=8

    so the length is 8 ft
