You have to factor out the common term or the GCF of the coefficients of the term

for example 18x - 32 y, the gcf is 18, so we take that out from the expression

    it will be 18 (x - 2)

Factoring: Finding what to multiply together to get an expression. It is like "splitting" an expression into a multiplication of simpler expressions.

Example: factor 2y+6 Both 2y and 6 have a common factor of 2:2y is 2 * y6 is 2 * 3So you can factor the whole expression into:2y+6 = 2 (y+3) So 2y+6 has been "factored into" 2 and y+3 To factor 18x-32y, first you find the gcf. the gcf of 18 and 32 is 2 then you do 18 divided by 2 and 32 divided by 2. you get 9 and 16. so then this is how you write your answer - 2 (9-16)
