Carmen recovered 2 gold bars that were stolen from a safe. the first bar weighed 2 and 2/5 pounds. the second bar weighed 1 and 2/3 times as much as the first bar. find out how much gold was recovered.

    The answer would be 4 and 1/15

    2 2/5 x 1 2/3 because the first bar is 2 2/5 pounds while the second bar was 1 2/3 times the first.

    12/5 x 5/3 change them into improper fractions

    4x1=4 weight of second bar

    total gold would be 2 2/5 + 4, 12/5+4 = 12/5+20/5 (change in common denom.)

    12/5+20/5=32/5 = 5 2/5 or 6.4 pounds.
