The sum of two numbers is 55. the larger number is 7 more than twice the smaller number. what are the numbers

    The numbers are 16 and 39

    this is because ...

    'a' x2 + 7 = 'b'

    b+a=55

    55-7=3a

    3a=48

    48/3=16

    so 'a'=16

    therefore

    16x2+7='b'

    'b'=39
