Matt had a full jar of marbles. he gave kayla 3/4 of the marbles. then kayla returned 1/3 of the jars worth of marbles to the jar. how much of the jar is not full of marbles?

    1 - 3/4 + 1/3 = 12/12 - 9/12 + 4/12 = 3/12 + 4/12 = 7/12 ... it is 7/12 full ... so the amount that is not full is 3/12 which reduces to 1/4
