    6.9 miles because it is 2 and a half hours between 10:40 and 1:10 so you multiply 2.30 x 3 = 6.9

From 10; 40am to 12:40pm, Kim hiked about 6 miles. And from then until her lunch break, she hiked for another 30 minutes, so she would've hiked about another mile and a half during that time.

Add 6 and 1.5 together, and the answer is 7.5 miles, or 7 1/2 miles.
