The residents of a city voted on whether to raise property taxes. The ratio of yes votes to no votes was 5 to 3. If there were 2292 no votes, what was the total number of votes?

    All you do is 2292 times 5 because you have more people that said yes than no. That equals 11460

    You divide 2292 by 3, then multiply that answer by 5. (In the end there would be 3820 yes votes). Then you add the two together!
