    Do the brackets first so - 4+17 = 13 and - 3-3 = - 6

    So you now have - 8+[ (13) - (-6) ]

    Then you simplify the brackets so 13--6 = 13+6 = 19

    So you have - 8 + (19) = - 8+19 = 11

    So the answer is 11
