A piece of wire 7 m long is cut into two pieces. One piece is bent into a square and the other is bent into an equilateral triangle.

How much wire should be used for the square in order to minimize the total area?

    If the length of the square is 1 m the area would be 1m^2 and perimeter 4m. It would take 4m of wire to make the square and 3m of wire to make the triangle.
