An estimate for the number of cells in the human body is 8 x 10^13. An estimate for the number of cells in a particular insect is 3 x 10^3. Determine, using scientific notation, how many times more cells are in the human body than in the insect. What is the power of 10 in the answer?

    (8*10^13) / (3*10^3)

    remember

    (ab) / (cd) = (a/c) (b/d)

    we can split them up

    also

    (x^m) / (x^n) = x^ (m-n)

    so

    (8*10^13) / (3*10^3) = (8/3) ((10^13) / (10^3)) = (8/3) (10^ (13-3)) = (8/3) (10^10)

    answer is (8/3) * 10^10 times

    the power of 10 is 10
