You have $22 in your bank account and deposit $11.50 each week. At the same time your cousin has $218 but is withdrawing $13 each week. When will your accounts have the same balance? (Hint: Write a system for the situation and solve)

    You = 22 + 11.50w

    Cousin = 218 - 13w

    it wants to know what w equals when You = Cousin

    or

    22 + 11.50w = 218 - 13w

    first we can add 13w to both sides

    24.50w + 22 = 218

    then we can subtract 22 from both sides

    24.50w = 196

    then we divide both sides by 24.50

    so

    w = 196 / 24.50 = 8

    therefore it would take 8 weeks for the accounts to have the same balance
