Six times the sum of a number and twelve is forty. Which equation represents the statement above?

    Six times sum of a number and 12 is fourty

    6 (x+12) = 40

    divide both sides by 6

    x+12=20/3

    minus 12 from both sides (36/3)

    x=-16/3

    the eqution is

    6 (n+12) = 40

    where the number is n
