    Expand the brackets: x + 5 - 8x + 2 = 0

    The 8x is obtained from - 2 x 4x, and the + 2 is obtained from the - 2 x - 1

    Collect all the x's and numbers to give you 7 - 7x = 0

    Move the 7x to the right by adding 7x to both sides: 7 = 7x

    Divide both sides by 7:

    1 = x

    (x+5) - 2 (4x-1) = 0

    x+5 - 8x + 2=0

    -7x = - 5

    x = 5/7
