    Let "x" be the amount of share for rental of the apartment per month. There were three of them who live in the apartment, it means all expenses and rentals shall be divided equally by three.

    First-month rental = Last month rental

    Individual contribution shall be calculated this way:

    Individual contribution = First rental + second rental + security deposit / 3

    $1000 = x + x + $1200 / 3

    $1000 * 3 = 2x + $1200

    $3000 - $1200 = 2x

    x = 1800 / 2

    x = 900

    The share per rent is $900 which is letter "D".
