    So 3 cans can store 9 tennis balls and if you want to distribute them evenly, then you would set up an equation. 3x for the 3 cans and the 9 is the amount of tennis balls. 3x=9 would be the equation and to get x alone, then you divide the entire problem by 3 and x would equal 3. 1 can gets 3 balls
