    Answer: f (-4) = 13

Put the value of x = - 4 to the equation of the function:

    f (x) = 5 + 2|x|

    f (-4) = 5 + 2|-4| = 5 + 2 (4) = 5 + 8 = 13

    |a| = a for a ≥ 0

    examples: |3| = 3, |0.5| = 0.5, |123| = 123

    |a| = - a for a < 0

    examples: |-3| = - (-3) = 3, |-0.5| = - (-0.5) = 0.5, |-123| = 123
