    Plug in the x value from the second equation

    3 (-y+2) + 2y=12

    use distributive property.

    -3y+6+2y=12

    since the y values are in the same side of the = sign, just put them together.

    -y+6=12

    subtract 6 from 6 and 12.

    -y=6

    since the equation has a negative y, divide what is left by - 1.

    y = - 6.

    that is the y value. now plug that in to the first equation.

    3x+2 (-6) = 12

    multiply.

    3x-12=12add 12 to both 12s

    3x=24

    divide.

    x=8.

    the ordered pair is (8, - 6), and the x value is 8.
