A snail moves at a speed of 3.147 inches per minute. If the snail keeps moving at this rate, about how many inches will it travel in 5.747 minutes?

    We can write a proportion for this question ...

    3.147/1=x/5.747

    We can now solve for x by using cross multiplication. Multiply 3.147 and 5.747 and you get 18.085809. X times 1 is just x. x=18.085809. Although this seems like a crazy number it is a correct value
