    Let E represent English test and M represent Math test.

    M + E = 164

    + M - E = 22

    2M = 186 eliminated E by adding the two equations

    M = 93 divided both sides by 2

    Now, plug that value into either of the equations to solve for E.

    M - E = 22 → 93 - E = 22 → - E = 22 - 93 → - E = - 71 → E = 71

    Answer: Math = 93, English = 71
