Look for a number that can simultaneously divide both:

    2 24 88

    2 12 44

    2 6 22

    3 11

There is no other number that can equally divide into 3 and 11.

    Therefore GCF = 2 * 2 * 2 = 8.

    That's it.

    8.

To work this out, find the prime factors of each:

    24: 2^3 x 3

    88: 2^3 x 11

Now take only the shared values, and multiply them together:

    2 x 2 x 2 = 8
