From a mountain side 418 meters above sea level, Jess took off in his helicopter and descended 88 meters before climbing 120 meters. What is Jess's elevation now?

    He started at 418 above sea level. descended means he moved down so subtract 88 from 418:

    418 - 88 = 330 feet.

    He then climbed 120, so now add that to the 330:

    330 + 120 = 450

    He is now at 450 feet above sea level.
