    3 (x+8) = 4+2 (x+6)

    3x+24=4+2x+12 (distribute or get rid of the parenthesis by multiplying)

    3x-2x=4=12-24 (subtract 2x from both sides, then subtract 24 from both sides)

    x=-8 (simplify)
