If 1/3 of a number is N then 5/6 of the number is

    You can think of this like an equation x (1/3) = N. we want to find x (5/6) now. what do you have to do to 1/3 to make it 5/6. then what ever we did to the 1/3 side we do to the N side. first lets get the same denominator. so 2/6 and 5/6. two ways to increase something are addition and multiplication by a number greater than 0 (which is the same as dividing by a number between 0 and 1). adding is simple enough, 1/3 + 4/6 = 5/6, but there is no N + 4/6. can you figure out what to multiply to get 1/3 to 5/6. Here is a hint, what do you multiply to get 2 to 5?
