The height of a tree, y, is related to the length of its shadow, x, by the equation y=kx. If a tree's height is 24 feet and its shadow is 9 feet long, then k=?

    24=K•9

    So then the next step is to divide by 9 on both sides to cancel the 9 out so you get the K alone.

    24 = K•9

    - - -

    9 = 9

    That cancels out the 9 by the K so now it's

    24

    - = K

    9

    Now divide 24%9 and it's 2.6666 but you round it to the nearest tenth so your answer is (2.7 = K)
