(1/2) y + 8 = 2y - 3
Add 3 to both sides
(1/2) y + 11 = 2y
Subtract (1/2) y from both sides
11 = (3/2) y
Multiply both sides by (2/3)
22/3 = y
Answer: 22/3
Check:
(1/2) (22/3) + 8 = 11/3 + 24/3 = 35/3
2 (22/3) - 3 = 44/3 - 9/3 = 35/3, good
