    first set the first equation equal to x

    subtract 2y from both sides

    x=27-2y now plug this in to the other equation

    2 (27-2y) + 3y=46 distribute

    54-4y+3y=46 - -> 54-y=46 now subtract 54 from both sides - y=-8 - -> D) y=8

    If you weren't asked to show work you could just plug the choices given into the equation
