You plan to make a 400-mile trip and figure that you can average 60 mph. How long will it take you to make the trip?

    If you are traveling 400 miles going an average of 60 miles an hour. Simplict way to solve this question is to first convert everything to time.

    60mph = 60 miles in 1 hour or 1 mile per min.

    once you do this it's much easier to answer the question.

    if you are traveling 1 mile per min, then it will take you 400 min to travel 400 miles.

    but I'm sure they want it to be in hours and minutes. so convert it to hours and minutes.

    divide 400 min by 60 min because 60 min are in 1 hour. You get 6.6666 only keep the whole number "6." so you know you have 6 hours. now to find the minutes simply multiply 6•60min = 360min then Subtract that from 400min. like so 400min-360min=40min. so your total time is 6hours and 40min.
