Mr. Jameson is walking toward his nine-story hotel and stops to look up to the top of the building. The angle of elevation to the top of the hotel is 55°. If the height of the hotel is 108 feet, about how far away is Mr. Jameson from the hotel?

    The distance between Mr. Jameson and the hotel is adjacent to the measured angle.

    Tan = sin/cos = adjacent / opposite

    Tan (55) = 108/x

    x = 75.6ft
