    Janet should receive $1.20

    Kay should receive $0.80

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Janet=2 gallons

    Kay=1 3/4 gallons=1.75

    Total=2 + 1 3/4

    =2+7/4

    =8+7/4

    =15/4 gallons

    They agreed to share it equally

    15/4:3

    =15/4*1/3

    =15/12=1.25

    =5/4 each individual gets 5/4

    Janet=2-1.25=0.75

    Janet gave up 0.75 gallonsof her water

    The percentage is

    0.75/1.25*100

    =0.6*100

    =60%

    Kay=1.75-1.25=0.50

    Kay gave up 0.50 gallons of her water

    The percentage is

    0.50/1.25*100

    =0.4*100

    =40%

    Janet gets 60% of $2

    60/100*$2

    =0.6*$2

    =$1.2

    Kay gets 40% of $2

    =40/100*$2

    =0.4*$2

    =$0.8
