    3x+y=8

    Step 1. Isolate y.

    y=8-3x

    4x-y=6

    Step 2. Isolate y again.

    y=4x-6

    Step 3. Graph y=8-3x

    To do this, first graph 8 on the y axis. Then with a slope of - 3/1 graph the first line.

    Step 4. Graph y=4x-6

    To do this, graph - 6 on the y axis. Then with a slope of 4/1 graph the second line.

    Step 5. Identify the coordinate where the two lines intersect.

    3x + y = 8

    4x - y = 6

    7x = 14

    7 7

    x = 2

    3 (2) + y = 8

    6 + y = 8

    -6 - 6

    y = 2

    (x, y) = (2, 2)
