    So just add equation 1 and equation 2

    You will get

    2x-2x + 5y + 3y = 12 + 4

    8y = 16

    y = 16/8

    y = 2

    Substituting y in equation 1

    2x + 5*2 = 12

    2x + 10 = 12

    2x = 12 - 10

    x = 2/2

    x = 1
